Version 2.19 *1: If Windows 7 and Vista 64-bit is already installed on your system, then you must use the BIOS Update CD for the BIOS update. *1: Windows Vista and 7 64-bit support Intel Core 2 Duo mobile processors only. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WHAT THIS PACKAGE DOES This package updates the BIOS (including system program and Embedded Controller program) stored in the ThinkPad computer to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below. If Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit and Vista 64-bit version has been installed on your system, use the BIOS Update CD for the BIOS update. This program is language independent and can be used with any language system. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CHANGES IN THIS RELEASE Version 2.19 [Important updates] Nothing. [Problem fixes] - Fixed an issue where OS boot with Tivoli OS from USB memory key might fail. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DETERMINING WHICH VERSION IS INSTALLED 1. Turn off the computer. 2. Turn on the computer. 3. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 4. Check the BIOS Version and Embedded Controller Version. 5. Turn off the computer. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTES - This package does not work on Microsoft Windows 7 and Vista 64-bit systems. Use the BIOS Update CD for BIOS updates for Windows 7 and Vista 64-bit systems. - If you use Windows Vista, before applying this BIOS into the system, you should install Windows Vista KB 937500. The information of KB937500 is located in the following Microsoft's site. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937500/en-us To verify if KB937500 is installed properly, 1. Click Start, then click Control Panel. 2. Find 'Programs and Features' and click. If this option does not exist on the window, choose Classic View to find it. 3. On 'Tasks' pane, click on "View installed updates". 4. Verify that KB937500 is included in the list of installed updates. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATING THE BIOS Notes: - If your computer runs satisfactorily now, it may not be necessary to update the BIOS. To determine if you should update the BIOS, refer to the Version Information section. - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the BIOS. - If your computer is attached to any kind of docking station or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. - Remove the Power-on password prior to updating the BIOS in the RDM (Remote Deployment Manager) or similar environment. Attention: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU DO THAT WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. Manual Update This section assumes to use Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer. Downloading file 1. Click once on the underlined file name. Once this is done, some pop-up windows will appear. 2. Follow the instructions on the screen. 3. In the window to choose Run or Save, click Save. 4. Choose the folder you would like to download the file to and click Save. A different window will appear and the download will begin and complete. Once the download has completed, there may or may not be a message stating that the download completed successfully. Extracting file 5. Make sure to be logged on with an administrator account on the target computer. 6. Make sure the AC adapter is firmly connected to the target computer. 7. Locate the folder where the file was downloaded. 8. Locate the file that was downloaded and double-click it. 9. Follow the instructions on the screen. 10. In the Select Destination Location window, click Next. If you would like to select a different folder, click Browse. 11. In the Ready to Install window, click Install. All the necessary files will be extracted to the folder selected in the step 10. Updating the BIOS 12. Make sure the checkbox next to "Install ..... now" is checked and click Finish. 13. Follow the instructions on the screen. 14. Select 'Update ThinkPad BIOS' and follow the instructions on the screen. 15. After the update has been completed, the program shows a message 'Flash Update has been successfully completed...'. Follow the instructions on the screen to restart the computer. Finally delete the file saved in the step 4. Unattended Update This is for system administrators' use only. 1. Refer to the Manual Update section, and download and extract the file. 2. In the step 12 of the Installing files section, uncheck the checkbox next to "Install ..... now", and then click Finish to cancel installation. 3. At the command line, execute WINUPTP.EXE with the -s option. Example: [Path where the files were extracted]\WINUPTP -s To view the update result, refer to the WINUPTP.log file created at the same directory of the package. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- INITIALIZING BIOS BIOS Initialization is suggested for some problems. To initialize the BIOS settings: 1. Turn off the computer. 2. Turn on the computer. 3. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 4. Press the F9 key to load default configuration. 5. Select Yes. 6. Press the F10 key to save default configuration and exit. 7. Select Yes. 8. Restart the computer. When using an Intel Graphics model on a minidock with an external monitor set to SXGA, the resolution will intermittently be changed in certain docking/undocking situations switch to XGA. (BIOS) <2.13> - (Fix) The data transfer rate is extremely slow using IBA(Intel Boot Agent) PXE protocol. (BIOS) - (Fix) An error may happen on updating the BIOS. (BIOS) - (Fix) Provided BIOS level solution for the issue of extended video model disabled after undock/dock operartion. (BIOS) - (Fix) Fingerprint authentication fails once at power-on time, power-on password prompt appears immediately. (BIOS) <2.12> - (New) The firmware version of TPM chip was upped to 1.2.0B.0D. (BIOS) Note: BIOS update on the PC with Revision 0D TPM chip and with 7BETD1WW BIOS or later versions to 7BETD0WW or older versions is inhibited. - (Fix) Even if the password was not actually changed under CSS (Client Security Solution), a message showing it being changed may appear and authentication may be failed even by entering the password. (BIOS) <2.11> - (Fix) The system can fail to boot from an optical drive. (BIOS) <2.10> [Important Updates] - This BIOS contains a critical processor microcode update to improve system reliability. Lenovo highly recommends that you apply this BIOS update. - (Fix) Upgraded to the latest microcode update for Intel Core 2 Duo processor. - (Fix) The CPU clock may down during charging the battery. (EC) <2.09> - (Fix) On a system with Windows Vista, the system may display the following error message during each power on, then cannot boot from the hard drive. 2100: Initialization error on HDD(Main hard disk drive) - (Fix) On a system with Windows Vista, the display resolution changes to VGA mode(640x480) after the LCD cover is closed and opened. (BIOS) <2.07> - (Fix) "SATA Controller Mode Option" is changed to "Compatibility" when the system boots up without the primary Hard Drive. "SATA Controller Mode Option" is displayed in the BIOS Setup Utility. "Config"->"Serial ATA(SATA)"->"SATA Controller Mode Option" (BIOS) - (Fix) The SMBIOS structure which represents Modem jack(RJ-11) is not displayed. A new Intel(R) Virtulization Technology option is added to CPU of Config menu in BIOS Setup Utility. Config->CPU->Intel(R) Virtulization Technology The Intel(R) Virtulization Technology option is always set to "disabled" after the BIOS was updated or flashed. The option needs to be set "enabled" if necessary after BIOS update/flash. (BIOS) - (Fix) POST error 1804 may appear at system power on with some types of USB devices. (BIOS) - (Fix) When EMM386.EXE is used at system boot from PC-DOS on a USB memory key, the system may hang or the wrong data may be accessed on the hard drive while reading or writing. (BIOS) <2.05> - (New) Maximum Graphics Memory size increases to 224MB. (BIOS) - (Fix) If the computer is forcibly shut down by special conditions (such like the power button being pressed for seconds or the battery down in suspend mode), the computer may not work after power on. (BIOS) - (Fix) The computer may be shutdown by a certain 3G GPRS card in the PC card slot. (EC) - (Fix) Once Active Protection System is disabled, it cannot be enabled again until the system is restarted. (EC) <2.04> - (Fix) Needs to enter a BIOS supervisor password after BIOS update to 7BETB9WW/2.00f or later version from 7BET50WW/1.08 (or older version), if the BIOS supervisor password is set at BIOS update. Note that this problem does not occur, once the system booted with BIOS 7BETB9WW or later version. If your X60 runs without problems after installing 7BETC2WW/2.03, no need to update to 7B9ETC3WW/2.04. <2.03> - (Fix) Windows desktop Icon location may be changed after Lid open/close. (BIOS) Note: To resolve this problem, after updating the BIOS with this package, the following display driver must be installed, again. (BIOS) - (Fix) POST1820 error occurs on the following system condition. - Wireless WAN model, and - WWAN is disabled by BIOS Setup or Wireless hardware switch. (BIOS Setup->Config-> Network->Internal Wireless Device), and - An external USB Finger Print reader is connected to the left side USB port of the system or any USB port in the docking station. (BIOS) - (Fix) When a system with a USB floppy drive in Ultrabase is hot-docked, the USB floppy drive is intermittently not recognized. (BIOS) - (Fix) The battery may not continue to be charged after the system was resumed from Suspend or Hibernation mode even if the battery was charged before entering the power saving mode. (EC) <1.09> - (New) Support of external 1920x1200 resolution wide display. (BIOS) - (Fix) Docking system in the Dock/Mini Dock sometimes does not appear to be complete.(BIOS) - (Fix) When the Password reset service of BIOS Setup is enabled (BIOS Setup->Security->Password->Password reset service) and Passphrase is disabled (BIOS Setup->Security->Password->Using Passphrase), POP(Power On Password) or HDP(Hard Disk Password) may not be unlocked with a registered password by the Password reset service. (BIOS) - (Fix) Even if CD-ROM speed is set to "Silent mode" in BIOS Setup, the "Silent mode" may be changed to "Normal mode".(BIOS) - (Fix) The process to recognize the kind of adapter connecting the system just after the OS boot was improved. (EC) - (Fix) A POST error message at no bootable device was changed.(BIOS) - (Fix) Display switching to external Display or Projector via Presentation Director is sometimes failed . (BIOS) - (Fix) HDD reset may not be issued to secondary HDD of Ultrabase when communication reset is required. (BIOS) - (Fix) Entering standby may fail in a certain case. USB host controller setting is changed to fix. (BIOS) - (Fix) The EC intermittenly hangs. (ThinkLight does not light.) (EC) <1.06> - (Fix) Acoustic noise may be heard when a USB1.1 device is connected to the system in battery mode. (BIOS) - (Fix) The suspend beep volume does not coincide with a sound volume set by user.
