Version 1.15 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WHAT THIS PACKAGE DOES This package updates the BIOS (including system program and Embedded Controller program) stored in the ThinkPad computer to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below. [Problem fixes] - The computer with RICOH CardBus Controller has slow data transfer performance. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DETERMINING WHICH VERSION IS INSTALLED 1. Turn off the computer. 2. Turn on the computer. 3. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 4. Check the BIOS Version and Embedded Controller Version. 5. Turn off the computer. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTES - If you use Windows Vista, before applying this BIOS into the system, you should install Windows Vista KB 937500. The information of KB937500 is located in the following Microsoft's site. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937500/en-us To verify if KB937500 is installed properly, 1. Click Start, then click Control Panel. 2. Find 'Programs and Features' and click. If this option does not exist on the window, choose Classic View to find it. 3. On 'Tasks' pane, click on "View installed updates". 4. Verify that KB937500 is included in the list of installed updates. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATING THE BIOS Notes: - If your computer runs satisfactorily now, it may not be necessary to update the BIOS. To determine if you should update the BIOS, refer to the Version Information section. - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the BIOS. - If your computer is attached to any kind of docking station or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. - Remove the Power-on password prior to updating the BIOS in the RDM (Remote Deployment Manager) or similar environment. Attention: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU DO THAT WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. Manual Update 1. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the target computer. 2. Start Windows 7 32-bit, Vista 32-bit, XP and logon with administrative privileges on the target computer. 3. Double-click 7juj13us.exe to extract it to your hard drive. The default location is C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\7juj13us 4. For Windows 7 and Vista, click Start, select All Programs, select Accessories, then click Run... For Windows XP, click Start, then click Run... 5. Specify WINUPTP.EXE with the full path name where you saved the package, then click OK. Example: C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\7juj13us\WINUPTP.EXE 6. Follow the instructions on the screen. 7. Select 'Update ThinkPad BIOS' and follow the instructions on the screen. 8. After the update has been completed, the program shows a message 'Flash Update has been successfully completed...'. Follow the instructions on the screen to restart the computer. Unattended Update This procedure is intended only for system administrators. The BIOS is updated without any user interaction. - Refer to the Manual Update section, and download and extract the files. - At the command line, execute WINUPTP.EXE with the -S option. Example: C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\7juj13us\WINUPTP.EXE -s To view the update result, refer to the WINUPTP.log file created at the same directory of the package. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- INITIALIZING BIOS BIOS Initialization is suggested for some problems. To initialize the BIOS settings: 1. Turn off the computer. 2. Turn on the computer. 3. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 4. Press the F9 key to load default configuration. 5. Select Yes. 6. Press the F10 key to save default configuration and exit. 7. Select Yes. 8. Restart the computer. When using an Intel Graphics model on a minidock with an external monitor set to SXGA, the resolution will intermittently be changed in certain docking/undocking situations switch to XGA. (When Intel Turbo Memory is installed in your system, conventional memory addresses are reserved 12 Kbytes more.) C0000-CE7FF : Reserved for Video BIOS CE800-D07FF : Reserved for Option ROM of Ethernet (*a) DC000-DFFFF : Reserved for USB BIOS (*b) E0000-FFFFF : Reserved for System BIOS Notes: *a: This area becomes free by disabling the Internal Network Option ROM option under Config and Network in BIOS Setup Utility. This choice will disable PXE and WOL features. *b: This area becomes free by disabling the USB BIOS Support option under Config and USB in the BIOS Setup Utility. This choice does not affect using USB devices in Windows operating systems. Usable Area: The following memory address can be used by the memory manager such as EMM386.
