What This package Does ---------------------- This package provides the USB driver for Windows NT 4.0(*1) users on the following ThinkPad models: - ThinkPad A30, A30p, A31, A31p - ThinkPad R31, R32, R40 - ThinkPad T30, T40, T41, T42, T43 - ThinkPad X20, X21, X22, X23, X24, X30, X31, X32, X40 Note: *1 : Windows NT 4.0 Fix Pack 6 or higher is required. Installation Instructions ------------------------- Note: - This feature requires that you install the "IBM ThinkPad Utility for Windows NT 4.0" for USB device suspend/resume power management support. If you do not install the ThinkPad Utility for Windows NT 4.0, the installation of this package will be terminated with some warning messages. Install the ThinkPad Utility for Windows NT 4.0, prior to this package installation. - If an old version 'USBAccess' is already installed, please uninstall the driver at first of all. UNINSTALL (and UPDATE INSTALL): 1. Start Windows NT 4.0 and logon with administrative privileges. 2. Extract USBAccess for Windows NT 4.0 to the hard disk drive. 3. Click Start, then click Run. 4. In the Run dialog window, type C:\DRIVERS\WNT\USBACCS\UPDATE.EXE and click the OK button. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead. 5. Click Start, click Settings, then click Control Panel. 6. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon. 7. Click the Install/Uninstall tab at the top of the Add/Remove Programs Properties window. 8. Select IBM USB access NT 4.0 in the list. 9. Click the Add/Remove button. 10. In case of Update Install, continue installation by the Clean Install procedure below. CLEAN INSTALL: 1. Start Windows NT 4.0 and logon with administrative privileges. 2. Extract USBAccess for Windows NT 4.0 to the hard disk drive. 3. Click Start, then click Run. 4. In the Run dialog window, type C:\DRIVERS\WNT\USBACCS\SETUP.EXE to install the USB driver. Click OK to start the installation. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead. 5. Follow the instructions on the screen. 6. Restart the system. SILENT INSTALL: 1. Start Windows NT 4.0 and logon with administrative privileges. 2. Click Start, Programs, then select Command Prompt. 3. Type as follows, C:\DRIVERS\WNT\USBACCS\SETUP.EXE -S If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead. 4. Press Enter. The installation is completed without reboot. UNATTENDED INSTALL: This is for system administrators' use only. 1. Start Windows NT 4.0 and logon with administrative privileges. 2. Extract the package to the hard disk drive of a test machine. 3. Copy the package to a subdirectory of the $OEM$ on the server. For example: C:\i386\$oem$\Usbaccs 4. Add the following lines to UNATTEND.TXT [Unattend] OEMPreInstall=Yes 5. Add the setup command to CMDLINES.TXT. For example: [Commands] ".\Usbaccs\SETUP -S -SMS" Hint and Tip ------------ The drive letter assignment of ThinkPad X20/X21 USB Portable Diskette Drive is made by the following rules: (This rule is applicable for the first USB Diskette Drive attached to the system.) - If "Legacy Floppy Drives" option of Floppy Drives menu is Enabled in IBM BIOS Setup Utility, the drive letter for the USB Portable Diskette Drive will be is assigned to the drive B on Windows NT 4.0. - If "Legacy Floppy Drives" option is Disabled, that will be assigned to the drive A on Windows NT 4.0.
