IBM ThinkPad June 5, 2001 IDE Driver for Windows NT Version 1.07 ====================================================================== What This Package Does ----------------------- This package provides the IDE driver for Windows NT users: The IDE driver enables or updates the IDE environment of the following ThinkPad computers: - ThinkPad 365X, 365XD - ThinkPad 560X, 560Z - ThinkPad 570, 570E - ThinkPad 600, 600E, 600X - ThinkPad 760E, 760ED, 760EL, 760ELD - ThinkPad 760XD, 760XL - ThinkPad 765D, 765L - ThinkPad 770, 770E, 770ED, 770X, 770Z - ThinkPad A20m, A20p, A21m, A21p, A22m, A22p(*1), A22e(Pentium model) - ThinkPad T20, T21, T22(*1) - ThinkPad X20, X21(*1) Note *1 : Supports only Windows NT4.0 To determine if you should update the IDE driver, refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. To update the IDE driver, refer to the "Installation Instructions" section. Installation Instructions ------------------------- Windows NT 4.0 1. Start Window NT 4.0, and log on with the user ID authorized as an administrator. 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive. 3. Double-click on SCSI Adapters in Control Panel. If you find the following drivers from Drivers tab, remove them. Intel PIIX PCI Bus Master IDE Controller IDE CD-ROM(Atapi 1.2)/Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller 4. Click Add. 5. Click Have Disk in Install Driver screen. 6. Specify the directory name with the full path name where you extracted the package in the step 2. (If some INF selection menu comes, select OEMSETUP.INF.) 7. Select the correct driver, and click OK. The driver you have to select is as follows. - ThinkPad PIIX IDE Driver: for ThinkPad 760E/760X/765 family and 365X family - ThinkPad PIIX4 IDE Driver: for ThinkPad 770 family, 600 family, 570 family, 560X family, A20m, A20p, A21m, A21p, A22m, A22p, T20, T21, T22, X20 and X21. 8. Restart the computer. Windows NT 3.51 1. Start Windows NT 3.51, and log on with the user ID authorized as an administrator. 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive. 3. Open Windows NT Setup in Main Program Group. 4. Select Add/Remove SCSI Adapters from Option menu. 5. Click the Add button. 6. Click OK in Setup Message screen. 7. Select Other[Requires a disk from a hardware manufacturer] from Adapter. 8. Specify the directory name with the full path name where you extracted the package in the step 2, and click OK. 9. Select a correct driver and click OK. The driver you have to select is as follows. - ThinkPad PIIX IDE Driver: for ThinkPad 760E/760X/765 family and 365X family - ThinkPad PIIX4 IDE Driver: for ThinkPad 770 and 770E. 10. Select Install. 11. Specify the correct path then click Continue. 12. Click Close. 13. Restart the computer. Determining which version is installed -------------------------------------- 1. Start Windows NT. 2. Click Start, point to Find, then click Files or Folders. 3. Click the Name & Location tab. 4. In the Named: field, type in PIIXIDE2.SYS. 5. In the Look in: field, specify Local Hard drives (C:,D:). 6. Click the Find Now button. Windows will now search your hard disk drive for piixide2.sys. If the file is not found, then the IBM IDE Driver is not installed on your system. 7. In the Found part of the window, select the piixide2.sys file located in C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS. 8. Scroll the window to the right and look at the Modified column. The time stamp on the file will be the version number.
