HOW TO INSTALL: I. Windows 98 (Version 4.10.1998) =================================== I. Installation of Windows 98 Operating System. 1. Extract package onto your hard disk drive (HDD). Assume extracted Directory is C:\DRIVERS\W9X\SUPP in this guide. 2. Copy all the cabinet files and installation programs in Windows 98 retail CD-ROM to your HDD as follows. 2.1. Make a temporary directory ( for instance, C:\WIN98) and make sure enough hard disk space is available to store the cabinet files and installation programs (the required free space vary depending on the language of Windows 98) 2.2.Copy all the cabinet (.CAB) files and installation programs from \WIN98 directory of Windows 98 CD. Type COPY src_cd:\WIN98\*.* tgt_drv:\tgt_dir and press Enter where src_cd: Drive Letter of CD-ROM drive ( e.g. D:, E: ...) tgt_dir: Drive Letter and Temporary directory 3. Copy updated INF files from SUPP directory to the temporary directory 3.1. Type COPY C:\DRIVERS\W9X\SUPP\W98GOLD\*.* tgt_drv:\tgt_dir and press Enter. tgt_drv:\tgt_dir: Drive Letter and temporary directory made in 2.1. (e.g. C:\WIN98) 3.2. For ThinkPad T30 only 3-2-1. Type COPY C:\DRIVERS\W9X\SUPP\PCI1520\TI.INF tgt_drv:\tgt_dir\PCMCIA.INF and press enter. 3-2-2. Type COPY C:\DRIVERS\W9X\SUPP\PCI1520\TI-CBus.CAT' tgt_drv:\tgt_dir and press enter. 4. Start Installation from the temporary directory 4.1. Run Setup.exe in the temporary directory 4.2. Refer to the Windows 98 documentation and instructions on the screen to complete the installation. 5. Apply INTEL INF Installer Utility (in Windows Supplement File) ThinkPad A30, A30p, A31, A31p and T23, T30 should use INFINST_ENU.exe in Windows Supplement File ( 1AOC13WW Version 1.30 or later) instead of this utility to be able to enumerate newer INTEL chipset in these systems. II. Windows 98 Second Edition (4.10.2222A) ========================================== 1. Extract package onto your HDD. Assume extracted Directory is C:\DRIVERS\W9X\SUPP in this guide. 2. Copy all the cabinet files and installation programs in Windows 98 Second Edition retail CD-ROM to your HDD as follows. 2.1. Make a temporary directory ( for instance, C:\WIN98) and make sure enough hard disk space is available to store the cabinet files and installation programs (the required free space vary depending on the language of Windows 98) 2.2.Copy all the cabinet (.CAB) files and installation programs from \WIN98 directory of Windows 98 CD. Start Installation from the temporary directory 4.1. Run Setup.exe C:\Win98\APMINST.INF in the temporary directory 4.2. Refer to the Windows 98 documentation and instructions on the screen to complete the installation. NOTE: ACPI mode installation does not require step 4-1, 4-2 but just run "Setup.exe". 5. Apply INTEL INF Installer Utility (in Windows Supplement File) ThinkPad A30, A30p, A31, A31p and T23, T30 should use INFINST_ENU.exe in Windows Supplement File ( 1AOC13WW Version 1.30 or later) instead of this utility to be able to enumerate newer INTEL chipset in these systems. Both Windows 98 and Windows 98 Second Edition ============================================== III. Apply APM2APM.reg information onto Windows 98. Note: ACPI mode installation does not require this step. 1. Boot the system 2. Open start menu and select Run. 3. The Run window is open. 4. Type C:\DRIVERS\W9X\SUPP\APM2APM\APM2APM.reg and click OK. Following Registry Editor's windows appears. Are you sure you want to add the information C:\DRIVERS\W9X\SUPP\apm2apm\apm2apm.reg to the registry? 5. Select Yes. Successful windows message is displayed. 6. Select OK to exit the registry editor screen. IV. Apply IBM LCD Color Profile 1. Click the right button on desktop to open Display Properties tab. 2. Select Settings. 3. Click Advanced. 4. Select Monitor and Change. 5. Click Have Disk. 6. Specify the directory where ibmtplcd.inf files exist and OK. 7. Select ibmtplcd.inf and click OK. 8. Select one panel in the list you are using now. 9. Click Apply. V. Install TI 1520 Support after Windows 98/SE setup (ThinkPad T30) (Only customers who did not copy TI.INF when setup Windows 98/SE) 1. Open Device Manager from Control Panel. 2. Open PCMCIA socket brunch. 3. Right click Generic CardBus Controller and select Properties. 4. Click Driver. 5. Click Update Driver. 6. Click Next. 7. Select Search for a better driver than the one your device is using now. (Recommended) option. 8. Click Next. 9. Select Specify a location:. 10. Click Browse and specify the directory name where you extracted this package PCI1520 subfolder, then click OK. 11. Click Next twice. 12. If Insert Disk dialog is displayed, please insert the disk specified as Win98 directory on CD-ROM, or local HDD copy of Windows 98 and then click OK twice. 13. Click Finish. 14. Repeat from step 2 to 13 for another Generic CardBus Controller.
