Installation Readme


Introduction
============
This update improves download performance by resetting the scheduler to
retrieve updates from Lenovo servers when requests for updates are not at
their peak. If the scheduler is currently set to retrieve updates at 11A.M.
on the 1st day of each month, this update uses an algorithm to set the
scheduler on each computer to a different day and time.

This update for the System Update scheduler may also work with other systems
that meet the system requirements. However, no testing has been done with 
other systems and no support is provided for using this hotfix package on
any system other than those listed as a "Supported system."


System requirements
===================
Microsoft Windows Vista, Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or higher, 
or Microsoft Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4 or higher 


New in this release
===================
This update checks the date and time of the users' scheduler settings. If the 
scheduled time is 11A.M. on the 1st day of each month, this update uses an 
algorithm to reset the scheduler settings to request updates from the Lenovo 
servers when network traffic is not at its peak.

Verifying the version of System Update
======================================
To verify the version:
1. Click the Help link in the Welcome screen.
2. Click About.
3. The version information is displayed.
  
  
Installing the package
======================
Windows Vista
-------------
1. Click Start, then click Start Search.
2. Type randomscheduler.exe in the search field, then click Search
   Everywhere. This will locate the file you just downloaded.
3. Double-click the randomscheduler.exe icon. You may see a dialog stating
   "A program needs your permission to continue". If you see this dialog,
   click Continue.
4. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.

Windows XP and 2000
-------------------
1. Click Start, select Search, then click All files and folders.
2. Type randomscheduler.exe in the search field, then click Search.
   This will locate the file you just downloaded.
3. Double-click the randomscheduler.exe icon.
4. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
