ThinkVantage Registry Monitor Service Performance Improvement Patch 
for Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows Vista 
Installation Readme


Introduction
============
The ThinkVantage Registry Monitor Service is a common service that 
will automatically start when either ThinkVantage Client Security 
Solution program, ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery program or 
ThinkVantage System Update program is installed. It may impact 
your computer performance in the following ways:
- Accessing the Windows registry frequently during the Windows 
  startup which may increase Windows startup time
- Creating an individual thread for every registry key that it 
  monitors
- Monitoring the same registry key repeatedly in several monitor 
  threads
- Monitoring the registry keys that are not specified for the 
  current user

This patch is used to improve your computer performance that is 
impacted by the ThinkVantage Registry Monitor Service.

The patch might also work with other systems that meet the system 
requirements. However, Lenovo will not provide support for using the 
patch on any systems that are not listed as the supported systems.


Software requirements
=====================
- Rescue and Recovery Version 4.10, 4.20, or 4.21
- Cilent Security Solution Version 8.10 or 8.20


Downloading the update package
==============================
To download the patch, do the following:
1. Click the file links to download the file from Lenovo Web site.
2. When prompted, select a drive and directory where to save the file.
   
   
Installing the package
======================
For Windows Vista
-----------------
1. Click Start, then click Start Search.
2. Type registry_monitor_patch.exe in the search box, then click 
   Search Everywhere. This will locate the file you just downloaded.
3. Double-click registry_monitor_patch.exe.
   When the message "A program needs your permission to continue" 
   displays, click Continue.
4. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.

For Windows XP
--------------
1. Click Start, select Search, then click All files and folders.
2. Type registry_monitor_patch.exe in the search box, and then click    Search. 
   This will locate the file you have downloaded. 
3. Double-click registry_monitor_patch.exe.
4. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
