What This Package Does ----------------------- This package provides the modem driver for Windows XP. This package enables or updates the modem function of the following ThinkPad computers: - ThinkPad R30 ( except Ethernet Wireless integrated model *1 ) *1 If your ThinkPad R30 is the Ethernet Wireless integrated model, Use "ThinkPad R30 Actiontec Combo Card Modem Driver for Windows XP" instead of this package. NOTE: The Audio Driver (version 5.12.01.5260) must be installed prior to installing this modem driver (version 3.1.97 (1.28)). <3.1.97a(1.28)> - (Fix) Can not install by ThinkPad Software Installer. NOTE: There is no change to the driver itself. If you have already updated the system to this version, you do not need to apply this release. Installation Instructions ------------------------- NOTE: If the audio driver has not been installed on the system, install the audio driver prior to the modem driver. Install-1: 1. Start Windows XP and log on with the user ID authorized as an administrator. 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive. 3. Click Start and then click Run. 4. Type C:\DRIVERS\WXP\MODEM\SETUP.EXE in the Open box and click the OK button. 5. Follow the instructions on the screen. 6. Restart the system for the driver to take effect. 7. If "Found New Hardware Wizard" window appears, Install-2 section. INSTALL-2: (Found New Hardware Wizard) After installing an audio driver, the Windows XP detects the MODEM automatically. To install the MODEM driver, follow the instructions below. The system displays Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box. 1. Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) in the Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box and then click Next. 2. Select Search for the best driver in these locations. and select only Include this location in the search:. 3. Specify the directory name with the full path name where you extracted the package in the Install-1 section in Include this location in the search: and click Next. 4. Click the Finish button when the installation completes. 5. Restart the computer. Determining which version is installed -------------------------------------- 1. Start Windows XP. 2. Click Start and then click Control Panel. 3. Click the Performance and Maintenacne. 4. Click the System icon. 5. Click the Hardware tab. 6. Click the Device Manager button. 7. Expand the Modem section. 8. Select Lucent Technologies Soft Modem AMR. 9. Right-click Lucent Technologies Soft Modem AMR, and select Properties. 10. Click the Driver tab. 11. Click the Driver Details... button. 12. In Driver files: window, find C:\Windows\agrsmdel.exe or C:\Windows\ltremove.exe and click it to select. The version of the file will be shown at File version: Use the table below to determine the driver version.
